Ex Coronation Street star cast in Who

Suranne Jones is to guest star in the next series of Doctor Who.The official BBC site has confirmed that the former Coronation Street star will play a young woman called Idris in the third episode, written by Neil Gaiman.


"As an actor, it's hugely exciting to be cast in Doctor Who," she said. "I'm a massive fan of the show and I was blown away when I read Neil's script and uncovered what's in store for my character."She added: "I'm sworn to secrecy so viewers will just have to wait until next year to find out any other juicy details!"

Filming for the episode is expected to begin on Friday.

Smith wants Florence Welch for Who Role

Doctor Who star Matt Smith has named musician Florence Welch - of Florence and the Machine fame - a top his wish-list of potential guest stars for the show.Smith was speaking as he prepares to tour the UK with 'Doctor Who Live', which opens at Wembley Arena on October 8 before heading around the country.Revealing those stars he'd like to become involved in Doctor Who in a cameo role, Smith said: "Florence from Florence And The Machine - I’d quite like her to do one."

Toby Haynes to Direct Episodes of Series 6

Toby Haynes, who previously directed the Series 5 finale and has directed the forthcoming Christmas Special is set to be directing Episode 1 and 2 of Series 6. The episodes to be broadcasted next year are to go into production in a few weeks time.


After this Toby Haynes will have directed five consecutive episodes for Doctor Who. Other confirmed directer for series 6 is Rickard Clark.

Matt Smith on 'SJA' appearance

Matt Smith has revealed that he was "very excited" to be able to appear in an episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures.Smith will play the Doctor alongside Elisabeth Sladen (Sarah Jane) and Katy Manning (Jo Grant) in the Doctor Who spinoff.He told SFX: "I did feel I was in the presence of Doctor Who royalty! Both [Elizabeth and Katy] go back a long way and occasionally I'd be reminded of the show's long and glorious past."He added: "You never lose sight of the fact that you're part of a programme which has been around for a very long time and will doubtless go on for a very long time in the future, long after I've stopped playing the Doctor."


The Sarah Jane Adventures will return to BBC One next month.

'Doctor Who themed stuff for Wii, and DS

Doctor Who peripherals have been announced for Wii and DS.Blue Ocean Accessories will be releasing a Sonic Screwdriver-themed Wii controller and DS stylus before Christmas.There will also be six slipcases for the DS featuring artwork from the show, with a further three to be offered as retail exclusives.


Media manager Ben Jones said" We are confident that these products will appeal to both casual gamers and the huge fan base of loyal Doctor Who followers

The peripherals will be available later this year

Adventure Games' to return





Doctor Who: The Adventure Games will return for a second series.The BBC has announced another set of episodes for 2011 after the success of the current series .It will once again be developed by Sumo Digital and produced by Steven Moffatt, Piers Wenger, Beth Willis and Anwen Aspden.The canonical episodes, which will be written by established Doctor Who writers, will also feature the likenesses and voices of Matt Smith and Karen Gillan. "Given the success of the first series, we'd be daft not to recommission," said head of multiplatform Simon Nelson."But it's not just about the numbers; the feedback we've had has been overwhelmingly positive. Our audience has been introduced to a new form of drama - and, for many, these have been the first computer games they have downloaded.

Three cast in new 'Doctor Who'

Three actors have been confirmed for guest roles in the upcoming sixth series of Doctor Who.The site for talent agency Alphabet Kidz reports that child actor Jamie Oram has been cast as Harry in the fourth episode. Oram has previously appeared in a number of commercials, but the part of Harry will be his first role in television drama.Actor Daniel Mays will also appear in the episode as Harry's father. Mays is known for his role as Jim Keats on Ashes To Ashes and will appear in forthcoming BBC sci-fi drama Outcasts.Harry's mother will be played by Emma Cunniffe, who has previously featured in episodes of The Bill and Casualty and appeared alongside former Who star Christopher Eccleston in the 2002 show Flesh and Blood.A casting call on Spotlight describes the character of Harry as "a troubled young boy who has a nervous disposition".Production on the episode - apparently titled 'What Are Little Boys Made Of?' - is currently ongoing in Cardiff.
